About Us
CDF National 1957 Limited is one of New Zealand’s premier painting and decorating contractors. Specialising in commercial and educational painting we offer a wide range of services from one off repaints to annual maintenance contracts. Our office is located in Kaiapoi, North Canterbury allowing us to cover the South Island and occasional North Island work with many contracts having been completed on the West Coast successfully, for example.
Our Vision
CDF was originally purchased by John Shivas in 2006. After the sudden passing of John his son Grant Shivas has continued with the business. Grant is determined to see CDF go from strength to strength becoming known for quality workmanship with a high standard of professionalism, reliability and performance.

A loyal and experienced team of tradespeople, apprentices, site foremen, managers, and administrators, they have all made a contribution to the ongoing success of the company.

Health & Safety is Paramount
CDF National 1957 has, considering the nature of its business, a proud safety record but is not content to rest on its laurels. The company has a dedicated Health & Safety Manager charged with remaining current with all relevant legislation and continually monitoring the company’s performance in this vital area to ensure full compliance.
The company is regularly required to work in environments which require comprehensive Health & Safety programmes and so provides up-to-date staff education and training in such specialised areas as materials handling and working at heights.
Professional Project Management
Your CDF National 1957 project receives the full attention of one of the company’s Managers, from quoting to completion. They are also responsible for implementing the company’s three-stage Quality Control Programme:
- The site is checked prior to commencement of work to identify any repair work required.
- The preparation work is checked prior to painting.
- The finished work is thoroughly inspected with you to ensure your complete satisfaction; this stage may also include additional independent checks by our paint suppliers.
The Manager will also monitor progress for adherence to schedule and regularly report to you. Weather can sometimes hamper progress but you will be kept fully informed at all times.
